Alternate Shots

A conversation that asks two questions about important stories: What Happened? What happens next?

He was president of the Council on Foreign Relations for two decades (he’s now president emeritus). He’s a Senior Counselor at Center|View Partners, a prominent New York City-based investment banking firm. He also distributes a weekly newsletter — Home and Away — on Friday mornings. Night Owls

Night Owls brings together two old friends, John and veteran political columnist and commentator Joe Klein, to talk about politics (foreign and domestic), war, advances in science and technology, the media business (including the news business) and cultural issues of many flavors. The podcasts are what used to be called "wide-ranging conversations" and often feature authoritative guests.

The News Items Podcast

John describes the News Items podcast as "interviews with the most interesting people you may not have heard of." That's the basic idea. Talk to people who are doing important work about the work they are doing or have done.

Recent guests include Neal Kassell, chairman of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, Jane Metcalfe, Executive Chair of the Human Immunome Project, Sven Beckert, author of Capitalism: A Global History, Juan Enriquez of Excel Medical Ventures, and Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports.

The podcast is devoted to people like that.
